my new favorite things.

list posts are fun. people like them. really, i like them. so i am going to do some sort of list posting once a week. different topics each time, maybe, maybe not. let's see how it goes.

this week: my new favorite things.
who do i think i am, oprah?

1.  brown mascara

like many of you, i've always used the blackest black mascara. for some reason i thought that's what i was supposed to use for bluish/greyish/greenish eyes. i still don't know what color my eyes are most days. but after too many mornings of the blackest black mascara accidentally brushed onto my eyelids followed by black goop in the evening i was over it. also, i started to feel a bit vampy. enter, brown mascara. a much softer look all around and actually plays up my eyes a little better. i still spaz and get the mascara on my eyelids but with a little blending it disappears. or so i imagine..

2. andes candies

in my quest to eat less sweets i fell prey to a very sneaky trap. the target clearance towers. i was running in to pick up some real essentials (bananas, salad, part-skim mozzarella, hand soap, vitamins even!) and i passed one of the many clearance towers at the end of the well-stocked and -kept aisles. maybe you've seen these? miscellaneous items strewn haphazardly about; half empty boxes of oatmeal, weird flavored chips; barbie hair clips; unnecessary cleaning items and of course, various holiday items. and low and behold. andes candies. i convinced myself these were nelson's favorite and snatched them up. at 99 cents for the package i felt i could justify them. you know, for nelson's sweet tooth. right. i pretty much ate the whole package in 4 days.

3. target black sweatshirty suit jacket

looks nearly identical to this one, except mine is a one button.
pictured in item number seven, but semi hidden by item seven.

i've been wanting one of these since september, it has suit jacket functionality with sweatshirt comfortably. of course the beloved anthro, jcrew and madewell had various options ranging in the $150 range. this seemed a bit steep considering this was basically a sweatshirt in a fancier shape. you know a shape acceptable for the office over dresses, yet still cute with jeans and boots on the weekends. so i found one. in the girls department at target. for $19.99. it sounds ridiculous, but this thing is cute and i've rocked it with various looks this week. don't judge!

4.  sleepytime vanilla tea

a great twist on an old favorite. the sleepytime bear and i are like this. you know that 90s saying when people cross two of their fingers over each other, thus referring to the closeness and/or tightness of them self and another individual? well, that's me and sleepytime bear. and now that he is peddling a vanilla flavor, we're even better friends. post wonder years time, has become vanilla sleepytime tea time for yours truly. andes candes were joining us for a bit, but i finished the entire box had to break up with andes. i can only handle one evening love.

5. weeds

i'm an hbo addict. i've never had showtime. so when weeds showed up on netflix instant watch i rolled my eyes with disdain and watched the first episode. it's the most ridiculous, hilarious and sometimes poignant show i've seen in a long time. is it going to change your life? uh no, of course not. but it's pretty damn unexpected with characters that make jokes you're scared to even think in a location you'd never want to admit you might live in. watch it.

6. almond milk

yep, i'm apparently up to 2005 in my trendy food purchases. but srsly, almond milk is delicious. in coffee. over pumpkin granola. with cookies. in addition to a cream sauce. mixed into oatmeal. and of course, straight out of the carton before bed.

7.  funnel scarf

originally i wanted one like this or maybe like this. i kept putting off the purchase, after all i had a lightweight one that went with 80 percent of my wardrobe. but still i kept seeing all these thick cozy ones that would definitely make peripheral vision challenging. yes, i wanted that! so out came an old turtleneck sweater from h and m sweater (possibly circa 2002?). snip, snip went the neck, stripey fabric sewed in the inside, little border on the outside, voila. my face is no longer chapped, i didn't spend a dime and i can see even less than usual. excellent.

8. real simple

a christmas gift from mommy that i didn't even know i was getting till 3 days ago. articles on super foods, how to control impatience and enjoy life, coupons galore, vegetarian meal ideas on the cheap, saving money without cutting fun and more. keep it up real simple!

9. shout wipes

these little devils have saved me on too many occasion. a red wine spill at a wedding? forgotten deodorant smudges? coffee down your blouse? dirty snow on your tights? banana on your pants? shazam, shout wipe to the rescue!
what are your new favorite things?
please share!

  1. I just got Netfliz and saw Weeds on there... hmmm. Worth a shot?

I also like that brand of mascara, though I like to jump around to see if there is something better.

  2. yes, weeds is definitely worth a shot. be warned, it's very bizarre but oddly addictive.
