pre-potty training

we bought a potty. it flushes. it lights up. it screams "yay!" it lights up and screams "yay!" when you flush it. that's pretty much it. atticus likes to "go potty." so far that means taking off all of his clothes and standing near the potty. he also very much enjoys taking apart the potty. oh and demonstrating how to flush it. on sunday, i found him flushing his beloved stuffed peter rabbit down the potty.

so far i've tried the "super low key, i am a chill parent" approach. this involves letting him be naked and casually turning on the bathroom faucet in the hopes it will trigger his bladder. all it's done so far is make him leave the potty for the sink.

on the day we bought the potty, he actually peed right next to it. of course, my level of excitement at his proximity to the bowl shut down the whole process. sigh. since then, i think he's been worried my head will explode if he actually aims correctly.

honestly, this is totally pre-potty training. i am only introducing the potty into our lives. i am not having a fit about diapers. i am trying to make this as least stressful (for all of us) as possible. but the potty is here, sitting in the bathroom, ready and willing for use.

i know my boy. he needs time to check things out and get comfortable. i fully expect to just find him on the potty one day reading ABC: An Amazing Alphabet, saying "doughnuts, D! D! D!" take your time little buns, mama is no rush for you to be all grows up.
