play doh

i took the day off yesterday to have a mama/goo day. after a leisurely breakfast of blueberry waffles (whole grain!) and clementines for atty and an amazeballs fried egg, smashed avocado and feta english muffie sammy for ME, we were off to trader joes. or JOES! as atticus called it as soon as we turned into the parking lot. and then continued to bellow throughout the store, you know in case the other customers were confused on their locale. we skipped the flyer but managed to find lots of treats: dark chocolate covered marshmallows, baby bok choy (!!!), local zucchini, tomatoes and squash, organic quinoa, dark chocolate covered edamame (do it), frozen mango and more clementines.

after our invigorating shop, i was determined to keep the spirit of joes alive. so we made play doh. did you know you could make play doh? all you need is flour, salt and water. oh and i added food coloring just to make it a bit more fun. and to help teach atticus his colors, as we seem to be a bit stalled on these. he's got it down that the grass is green, but the rest of the color wheel is a bit hazy. i've tried showing him a bunch of items that are the same color: a red blanket, a red apple, a red fire truck, a red shirt, etc. and then saying all these items are red. so far he just looks at me like i'm stupid. like duh mom, that is a blanket, apple, truck and shirt. sigh.

anyway, play doh! we spent at least an hour playing with play doh yesterday. i spent about half of that time telling atticus not to eat the play doh. you would think trying something once would be enough to know it's not exactly tasty. in fact, sometimes atticus can not even try something and be certain he hates it. but pastel colored mounds of dough? hey, those might be tasty. nope. hmmm, maybe i'll try again, is mom looking? i will try it anyway. ug, still bad.

Play Doh Recipe ( i did the easy recipe, shocking right?)
1 cup flour
1/4 cup salt
1/2 water, plus 1-2 tbsp
mix to combine, divide into four pieces and add food coloring to each.
