orange julius

I loved orange julius as a kid. it was better than the vanilla milkshakes at mcdonalds, frosties at wendys or even blizzards at dairy queen. the OJ (as i affectionately refer to it), was such a sweet, smooth and unexpected milkshake. people probably think its weird, but orange flavored delights always struck a cord with me -- from the orange coffeecake my grandmother would bring over on saturday mornings that we lovingly slathered with butter to the orange chocolate you could only order from the easter candy sale (it was the 80s and there was no trader joes, thus no orange chocolate!) to of course, my beloved OJ. the OJ was actually only available at one mall in buffalo, the semi-seedy eastern hills mall, but i always got an orange julius if we made the trek out there. i heard there was an orange julius in northern virginia, but to my knowledge, it's just a rumor. and now i'm pretty sure all the orange julius establishments have closed their doors. a very sad realization that forced me to whip out my blender, think for two whole minutes and make this delightful creation. you should really try it. you won't be sorry.

  1. Not a rumor - there was one at Tyson's Corner, but it closed recently. Is it sad that I know that?
