blizzard brunchie.

in case you don't live in the dc metro area, this is the weather we've got going on about now:

yep that's about 2 feet of snow. and it appears no end is in sight, yes, i have that insight:D
about wednesday, the news was peppered flooded with warnings of record-breaking inclement weather. so the panic mode set in, and i went to trader joes and whole foods for all our bare necessities. the typical: 3 six-packs, 2 bottles of wine, 4 types of cheese, malted milk ball gelato, mini chocolate bon bons  and of course, littleneck clams. the. absolute. necessities.  also somehow with the other random crap food i bought, the total came to about $150 worth of groceries. in all honesty, we're not that gluttonous, but needed grocery shopping time and the snow induced food coma happen to coincide. so what's a girl to do?

well plan a lot of meals that are equal in their cuteness and tastiness factor.

a good way to achieve cuteness is to go miniature. these junior flaky grands seemed like an excellent start.

so am i the only who didn't know about these lovelies? perfect and unmistakably cute. bake at 400 for 8 minutes. turn off oven. and let brown for another 2  minutes.

another semi-splurge at the grocery store was center cut pork bacon. i honestly have no idea the last time i even bought pork bacon. i rarely buy bacon period because i will chose it over most things, perhaps even a man...and when i do i buy turkey bacon, which is v. good and much healthier. but well, we were at giant yesterday before the storm hit and this seemed like the only realistic option for a blizzard.

especially after you cook over medium heat for about 8-9 minutes it looks like this mouth watering crispy goodness of porky pig.
don't forget your cheddar! you don't have to be as zima-like as me with the new zealand grass feed chedda but this mcsandwhich like brunch needs cheese of some sort.

of course don't forget your eggies. scramble up two eggs mixed with a little milk, salt, pepper and red pepper flake. i've been cooking my eggs a little underdone these days (grandma would be so proud! she would overscramble eggs for me when i was kid because "runny eggs are gross!") and once again i've come to realize, i've been stupid for over 30 years. runny eggs are superior to every type of egg in the universe.

with the common sense that i'm sure you all possess, assemble your breakfast brunchie.

btw, these junior grands are 100 calories each, each egg is 70 calories, 1 slice bacon is 25 calories and teeny bits of cheese are in no way more than 50 calories. so yeah, the math major in me, knows this is definitely less than a mcdee's egg mcmuffin, way less than a bagel with egg and cheese and of course less than the rooty tooty fresh and fruity of dennys. but this was so mouth wateringly scrumptious. i'm so glad i only made two of these numbers, one for each of us, because a.) we would have eaten all 5 of the junior grands brunchie blizzard sammies had we made them all and b.) we can now have this brunch again tomorrow. yep, still planning all of my future meals as i finish them.
