coffee smoothie.

breakfast is usually a semi-leisurely activity for me. most likely because i tend to work more evenings than days so i have my mornings to  myself. also, i love breakfast food (toast, yogurt with fruit, oatmeal, pancakes, eggs and bacon, etc), drinks (strong coffee) and just the ritual of it all. kettle whistling. toast toasting. coffee brewing. sizzling eggs. morning sunshine. watering my herbs while i wait for coffee. it's just a calming way to spend 5 minutes alone before the day really starts. however, not every day can i live like a spoiled brat and yesterday was just one of those days. my sister, emily, was graduating from high school and the marathon event was set to begin without time for my usual ceremonial breakfast. as i contemplated breakfast options the night before i decided the best idea was to sleep as long as possible (duhhh, of course), thus making a portable breakfast was the way to go.

the afternoon before i had brewed some coffee to have iced coffee the next morning (it's summer after all, so i've kicked off the iced coffee regime), and that quickly became the vehicle for my portable breakfast.

doesn't this look like a nice pint of guiness?
in fact i named the photo guiness, jpg
but seriously, it's a pint of iced coffee.
i used 1 cup of this.

combined with:

2/3 cup of low-fat greek yogurt

and your favorite spices

dashes each nutmeg, vanilla and cinnamon.
followed by a big handful of ice and zoom goes the blender.

drizzle in a little honey for sweetness.
frothy, nutritious and caffeinatous for your early morning rush routine.
triple threat.
